when did you realise you love art...

I was asked this recently and to be honest, art and creating has been part of me as long as I can remember. There are photos at my parents of me in a nappy and mickey mouse bib painting with my hands and my feet! I was obbessed with painting rainbows and I still love colour, and more importantly how colours work together. My father is a sculptor and encouraged me to express my self through art and craft, my first stone sculpture was a sofa for my barbie! Not very comfy, but she is plastic. :-)

As a young teenager I loved Art Nouveau, Klimt and Pre-Raphaelite masterpieces and had these pinned to my walls....

When did you realise art/craft was your life? And what did you have pinned to your bedroom walls as a teenager?

Morningside Makers Market

Taking part in my first craft fair/market on Saturday 5th June, 10.30am until 4.30pm at Columcille Centre on Newbattle Terrace, just off Morningside Road in Edinburgh. I have been very busy the last couple of weeks gettng work finished, presentable, priced and wrapped.

I was worried that as all my work is on paper that my table would look very flat and not attract customers. So I have been looking for mini easels or stand up picture frames, luckily I found perfect ones.

Just got to hope that lots of people turn up now and I make some sales.

UPDATE

The makers market went well. Met some lovely people (who I will blog about soon) and picked up some great tips for the next fair I do. Here are some pics from the day:

Volksfling

Campervan is nearly ready for Volksfling!! It's been a crazy week with van failing MOT, but passing re-test late Friday afternoon. OH is busy bolting the bed back down so we have a comfy sleep, I was not going for the idea of just chucking the mattress on the floor. With the possible (and now definite) wet weather it would just end up soaking.

Been a long time since our last trip in the camper back in October, so we are bound to of forgotten something. Only camping for one night so I am sure it won't be too big a deal. Really looking forward to first trip of the year, and this year I am insured to drive as well. Fingers crossed I don't bump it or scratch the alloys!!!

Jade Stout landscape influences

I have always loved the outdoors, the beach and fresh air. Growing up in Orkney this was everywhere. I grew up in a tiny bay called Houton in Orphir. The farm cottage I spent these early years in was only the width of a single track road from high tide. Being this close to the sea and elements from a very early age I was mesmerised by the power they have...

Once at art college I continued my love of art and from about 2nd year started painting exclusively with landscape as my main influence. Artists I found inspiring than and still do now, had a huge impact on how I developed my abstract landscape style.
